Everything He Ever Wanted

Loki continued in his search to restore his immortality and the powers he had lost. By day he toiled away as the City Mayor, and then the Governor, and he quickly rose up the ranks to find himself on the ticket as Vice President. For the first time, the people said that the Vice President is really the person they elected, and the President was just along for the ride. They simply couldn't let said star rise so quickly. It just isn't done. By night, he poured over every tome he could get his hands on. His beloved Kriss even left her job as an Intern at the local hospital to research Alchemy while he was at work. Two sharp minds bent towards a single task. They found nothing that would return him, until the day of his installment as Vice President.

Kriss had been trolling the local potions and elixirs shop, looking for ingredients or books they didn't already own. The shopkeeper recognized her, after all the Odinsons were regular customers of his. He said that he'd come across something recently, and when he did, he knew it was something meant for him. A special tonic, he said. Unlock your true, hidden potential, he said. He handed Kriss a bottle with a slightly glowing liquid inside, so dark blue it was almost purple. They negotiated a price, that she thought was a bit high... but for her Loki, if there was any chance at all she couldn't refuse.

She gave it to him when he came home from work, a congratulations for having worked so hard and gotten so far so quickly, a token of her love for him. At first he smirked at the idea of a 'special tonic', but the meaning of such a gift was not lost on him, a bit foolish or not. With a wry grin, he pulled the stopper and drank down the viscous contents, and then felt the world start to spin circles.

Suddenly he was so cold in a way he barely remembered, as the human body changed, he though he might die of it before the frost giant in him had reawakened. Loki felt the gravity of real power threatening to crush him into the earth, and the thousands of years stretching out before him, as they should have always been. When his eyes opened, he could see the nine worlds again, and considered a triumphant return to Asgard. Then he saw Kriss, standing over him, eyes wide and staring, in a state between worried, excited, and terrified, and knew he would stay. Midgard was his world now. He could only imagine how he looked, blue and covered in the swirls and glyphs of the jotunn. The grass had frozen around him where he lay, and he quickly assumed the mask he'd worn all his years in Asgard, pink and unmarked and safe to touch without injury. Loki pulled his wife into his arms... and they went inside to celebrate.

The Vice Presidency flew by in a whirl, and on the next ticket, it was Loki's name at the top, and he didn't keep secret what he was, or the things he'd done, or how he'd been changed by his life here with his wife. What surprised him, was the sheer number of odd creatures who came out in support. Vampires, werewolves, fae, mortal sorcerers, mutants, even merfolk all stood out in support of a new acceptance in the world, with Loki to lead the way. Midgard was ascending to a new height, and these people were only the beginning. He won in a landslide of public affection that completely overwhelmed ignorant fear. The most powerful office in the world was his, and not a single drop of blood spilled.
