The World is Not Enough

Loki returned to his patch of land outside the small city of hipsters. He was moved immediately to a local politician's right hand. By the next day, they knew he was too good to work for someone else, and he'd stepped into an empty seat on the city council. It wasn't enough. He was on track. He was near halfway there... but thoughts of Kriss consumed him.

As time passed... it only got worse. He started representing his city to the state legislature, only to find his victory tasting of ash.

Loki had it bad, and there was only one thing to do about it.

He bought her a ticket to visit, and to his immediate relief, she showed up the next morning. Now he knew why there were descendants in the future, why he'd stayed instead of returning to Asgard. Maybe one world could be enough, if she was beside him.

Kriss was at the very least surprised, but when the shock of the moment passed, she told him yes and never went back to that shitty university town. They agreed that she should take the time to settle in before they start planning the wedding. With that taken care of, there were still parts of the future he saw that Loki needed to change. He moved on from chemistry into alchemy, seeking a release from mortal form and claiming his godhood once more.
