Finding the Right Motivation

Of course, what Loki found on the other side of the mysterious portal, wasn't anything close to what he had expected. He'd hoped for a secret way back to Asgard. Instead, this might have been even better. Loki discovered the future, and what a discovery it would turn out to be. He spent some time wandering the tall glass spires, finding the records of the past, and trying to put together how far from his local time he'd actually come. The technology came easily to him, who grew up in the halls where science and magic are often spoken of interchangeably. It wasn't Asgard, but that didn't mean that the toys weren't fun.

What hit the former god the hardest though, was discovering that he had descendants living in this time and place. Immediately, he went to go see them, and discover what had become of his line. What he found... were more mortals, with no link to what he used to be. He'd never found his way back to his powers. He'd never accomplished anything. His grandchildren of however many greats lived in a run down shack on the edge of town. The were ordinary. Pathetic.

He swore that he wouldn't allow it, and set out to see how much of it he could change. As an experiment, he thought that perhaps money would be the easiest way to test how pliable this future was. Digging laboriously through the city hall records, he discovered the perfect way to add a quick infusion. Lotto numbers. He wrote down the numbers to choose for the date in the present, and hurried back to play them. While he didn't hit a world record jackpot, Loki determined it was enough, and scampered back through the portal to see if there was any difference.

He determined this to have been a successful test, and upon returning to his present, he set out to do what he'd planned after falling from the rainbow bridge. He would take over Midgard. This time, however, he would use a completely different approach. Politics.
